Payment Information and Dispute Process

About Tax Warrants

When a past due liability exists, the Indiana Department of Revenue will forward the warrant to the county sheriff and the individual will receive notification from the sheriff indicating the amount owed on the liability.

Important Notice

You will receive notification from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office indicating the amount owed. This letter includes important information about payment options and dispute procedures.

Disputing the Amount

If you wish to dispute the amount owed, contact the Indiana Department of Revenue directly.

Making a Payment

You may pay the tax warrant in full or set up a payment plan through the sheriff's office. You can make a tax payment in the following ways:

Online Payment (Credit Card)

Pay online using a credit card through the Indiana Tax Warrants portal:

Mail a Money Order

Mail a money order to the following address:

Attn: Tax Warrants

Important: Include the warrant number on your money order. A receipt will be mailed back to you.

In-Person Payment

  • Bring a money order to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office during normal business hours
  • Make a cash payment at the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office

Note: For cash payments, you will need to bring the exact amount of payment, as we are unable to make change.
