Records
The records division of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for handling all requests for information. Request for public records will be responded to within twenty-four hours, if the request is made in person. Record requests received by mail will be responded to within seven days of receipt.

The sheriff’s office accepts cash payments, money orders and cashier’s checks made payable to DeKalb County Sheriff.

Crash Reports
A state crash report can be obtained online at www.buycrash.com, at the sheriff’s office during regular business hours, or by mail (listed below).
A crash report may not be available for 3-5 days following the crash as it gets completed and goes through the review process.
Police Reports (including minor property damage accidents when no state crash report was completed).

Limited Criminal History Check
Request for Limited Criminal History checks are only accepted when received in person at the sheriff’s office with a state approved identification. The limited criminal history check will only produce results from criminal convictions in DeKalb County.
*For juvenile background checks, you will need to contact DeKalb County Probation.
Fingerprints
The sheriff’s office does fingerprinting from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. We provide the necessary fingerprint card, or you may furnish the fingerprint card.
Payment should be made at the time fingerprints are taken and you will leave with your fingerprint cards.
