Program Mission
The School Resource Officer (SRO) program places specially trained deputy sheriffs in DeKalb County schools to provide a safe learning environment, build positive relationships with students, and serve as law enforcement liaisons for school administration.
Our SROs serve as educators, mentors, and protectors, working collaboratively with school staff, students, and parents to address safety concerns, prevent crime, and promote positive youth development throughout our school community.
Core Responsibilities
- •Provide visible law enforcement presence in schools
- •Respond to incidents and emergencies on school property
- •Investigate crimes involving students and school property
- •Conduct security assessments and safety planning
- •Mentor students and provide guidance
- •Coordinate emergency response drills and training
Educational Initiatives
- •Drug and alcohol prevention education
- •Internet safety and cyberbullying awareness
- •Conflict resolution and peer mediation
- •Law-related education and civic responsibility
- •Gang awareness and resistance education
- •Career exploration in law enforcement

SROs work to build trust and positive relationships with students, creating an environment where young people feel comfortable seeking help and guidance.
Community Engagement:

Triad Approach:
SROs fulfill three key roles: law enforcement officer, educator, and informal counselor/mentor, creating a comprehensive approach to school safety.
